CPAs and public accounting
Under the Chartered Professional Accountants Act, public accounting is the activity reserved for CPAs. This activity consists of expressing an opinion aimed at providing a level of assurance on a financial statement or any other information related to that financial statement; that is, performing an assurance engagement—either an audit or a review engagement—and issuing special reports. Public accounting also includes compilation engagements that are not solely for internal use and that result in the issuance of a notice to the reader.
